It is simply three words: PREVENT, SURVIVE and ESCAPE!
Self defense is not a sport. We don’t want to win, but we definitely don’t want to loose. That might be fatal. You want to be who “may walk in peace!”
While you read this I have a question for you. Where are you now? Right now, in this moment? Don’t cheat, don’t look up, just say the address, the floor level, what is around you, how many people are there, where are the exits, what kind of objects are around you? Do you see where do I want to go with you?
You go into a place, a cafeteria, a restaurant, your own home, you should analyse it quickly, search for exits, strange people around you, available common objects, chairs, forks, knifes, fire extinguishers, etc that you might use in a case of attack. Are you at home? Where is the closest “weapon” you may use against a burglar? Knife in the kitchen, pepper spray at the entrance, umbrella near the coat, bottle of beer near the balcony, and so on and so on.
How the people look around you? Group of business people with their bodyguards in the corner? Young girls in their miniskirt? How many couples, how many adults, how do they look? Like predators, or like prey? What do they wear? Is there any suspicious look on them, like hidden or concealed weapon?
If you get attack, you call the police, you should give every information what you can immediately. Maybe you have to do it while you run away from someone, your stress level would be definitely much higher than now. You might even forget your own name.
By the way, what is the phone number of police? Is it 999, 113, 911, 107, or is it 0118999881999119? Tricky question, right? Maybe it just should be saved to your emergency dial.
